Look Out and Look Up: God is Great and Mighty

Has God delivered you from a sickness, a habit, or a bondage? Are you convinced that life is a warfare, but the struggle will not last forever? Perhaps you didn’t notice or recognize those times in your life that God wants to talk to you or He’s revealing Himself to you through people and circumstances around you.

Look at the world we live today. Each day we hear bad news from different sectors of our society. Today, we are facing a pandemic, an epidemic of infectious disease that spreads through populations across large regions, continents, or even worldwide. A Swine flu virus outbreak is now affecting Mexico and other parts of the world. Not so long ago, we were battling the SARS outbreak, the Ebola virus, and bird flu. Recently, the World Health Organization (WHO) raised the swine flu alert level, elevating it to one notch below a full-scale pandemic. In these types of situations, have we ever wondered what God is telling us?

During the time of Isaiah, the prophet whom God used mightily to carry the Lord’s message to his people, Isaiah speaks a comforting word to the people of his day – words that come directly from God to His people. This is called “prophecy” – a word which contains the thought, not only of foretelling, but forthtelling.  As Isaiah speaks forth the word of the Lord in Isaiah 40:1-31, take heed to what is being said, for this could also be God’s word to your heart today as it was to the people of Isaiah’s time. Isaiah 40: 26 says, “Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one, and calls them by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing.”

Life is a warfare, but the struggle will not last forever. All created beings sink to nothing in comparison with the Creator, who has the command of all creatures and of all created beings.

“Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint” (Isaiah 40:28-31). God’s word comforted the people during the time of Isaiah, and this same word of God is available for us to use as we face difficulties and problems in life.

Now, go forth with God’s word, in God’s strength, not in your own. Like the eagle, you will soar over all difficulties and problems. Yes, life will be full of troubles, but troubles are removed in love when sin is pardoned. Let us therefore focus on Jesus who is the Alpha and the Omega. He went before us. He started the work in our lives and He will finish the work. In the meantime, there will be circumstances and people who will affect our lives, who will steal our joy in many ways.

Trust in the Lord, because there is great joy that awaits us – a place called home forever. The price has already been paid, paid for by the precious blood of our Lord, Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 2:9 says, “Things which eye has not seen and ear has not heard, and which have not entered the heart of man, all that God has prepared for those who love Him.” Let us focus on the promise in Revelation 21:4, “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

Are you feeling spiritually hungry, tired, or jaded at the moment? Then look out and look up: God is in His heaven. He is great and mighty to save. Pray for an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ. The best solution for the overwhelming problems we are facing in this world today is to accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior. Pray to receive His love, His grace, His mercy, and His forgiveness.
