Christianity in the Eyes of a Child

I grew up attending Sunday schools in a small town with other children on a depressed community. We loved listening to bible stories, coloring pictures of bible characters, reciting bible verses in front of the congregation, and learning songs that talk about God’s love. For me the whole experience is full of fun and learning activities. And I could feel the love, care and acceptance of people around me. I also enjoyed the time with friends because they accepted me to be their friends and in turn, I love and accepted them as my childhood friends. I strongly believe to this day, those treasured moments that I’ve experienced the love and acceptance of people during my childhood made me the kind of person I am today. It’s not the activities that I enjoyed doing or my 100% complete attendance in all kid’s activities, nor influence of my parents and sibling. It’s just the love and acceptance I’ve felt from people around me especially my family that made me fully understand that God loves me and what Christianity is all about. How about the young generation of today?

The world today has different set of values, a different mindset, and a different culture. Our world today is full of broken families, broken relationships, and broken people with hearts full of bitterness, hatred, or selfishness. How will the young generation know and feel that they are loved by God if they always feel rejected by people, by society, or worst rejected by their own families? How will this generation believe and accept that God loves them and that He has wonderful plans for their lives? How can we effectively present the Christian faith before the eyes of a child, before the eyes of today’s generation? If this concerns you, which I believe it do concerns each of us, then we need to take action today by learning and applying basic truths found in the Word of God.

Christians is the title given to followers of Jesus Christ – those who have accepted Him as their Lord and Savior, and having believed that He was crucified, He died a very painful and shameful death to pay for the penalty of our sins, and that He was raised from the dead so that we may have eternal life. All these happened because God first loved us. He knew that we are sinners and that we cannot in any way save ourselves and so He sent His only Son. In Romans 5:8 it says, “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us”. God loves and accepts us just as we are. Many times we fail to reciprocate the love of God by our own failure of loving others. Do we have the burning desire to share God’s love to this generation? We should speak the truth in love and live a lifestyle of love. We just cannot contain God’s love in our hearts because it must be shared to our families and loved-ones, to our friends and neighbors, to our colleagues and acquaintances. We need to be the kind of people who care more for others than we do about ourselves. Our expression of love and care for others in many little ways will greatly help today’s generation to feel God’s love, acceptance, and forgiveness. These are basic truths found in the bible that we need to live by.

Still confused? Feeling rejected, alone and unloved? Today, the Lord is saying these words to you, “My child, I love you. I was there on the day you were born, and I gave you special gifts to last a lifetime”. My prayer is that you receive this message and pass it along. Many feel alone and unworthy of God’s love. We may not deserve it, but God wants us to accept His free gift of salvation. He wishes that none will perish. God loves each of us for who we are. You can respond to God’s love by asking God’s forgiveness and accept the free gift of salvation that is through Christ Jesus. Trust Him to be your Savior and Lord. Live a life worthy of what He has done on the cross of Calvary. Finally, share God’s love and forgiveness to people around you especially your family and loved-ones.
