It was one afternoon, the weather is fine, and the wind is blowing as it used to be. I was sitting relaxed on a bench. Suddenly, I noticed a magnificent beautiful green plant. I was astounded by its brilliant dark-green leaves as it was hit by the sun. Its stem is so chunky like it was telling the wind that you cannot beat me. Generally speaking, that plant was indeed great. One thing really caught my attention; it wasn’t the awesomeness of the plant, but the darkness that lies within. That darkness I am referring here is the dark shadow forming behind as it was hit by the waning sun.
Shadow, what’s with the shadow anyway? It is really normal due to the presence of light. But my wary is this that shadow didn’t show off the beautiful green plant but rather it just showed a black pigmentation on the wall. It’s weird, why is it like that? Asking this question to myself, I am carried back by my memory on my early childhood days. I am actually asking my mom, “Mom why is the shadow dark?” and my mom would just give me a smile and will say, “You’ll know it in time.” That particular day I was left wandering, until years passed and I already forgot about my silly question. Not until that very moment I was staring at the shadow of the plant. A question was raised on my mind as I was refreshing on my thoughts my good old memories, “Do things without shadow exist?” According to Science, of course the answer is a big “No” for the reason that any object that occupies space can possess shadow. Still in the atmosphere of thinking, I have this thought on my mind, “Does this shadow is implying something?” And I found myself answering my own question. Taking a glimpse at the green plant once again, I have hypothesized that maybe shadow is an implication of the dark side present in all whether they are beautiful or ugly. Even humans like as are a no exemption to the rule.
There are lots of people out there who are wearing the most expensive brand of clothes, brand of shoes, the finest jewelries and top of the line gadgets and gizmos just to cover up their frailties in life. They use these things to pretend that they are complete. They use these things to show the world that they are good or rather the best. They use these superficial things as masks. But reality bites. Try taking these things out of their systems and you’ll notice that they are the same people like us who are weak and vulnerable. Yes, we are really weak. No matter how we show-off to others that we are strong we are still a failure.
Friend, let me give you a piece of advice. We can only overcome these things if we can see clearly who we really are. Shadows form when light is present, showing that dark colored pigmentation. So as we, we can only see our weaknesses if we are exposed to LIGHT.
We are not interested if the topic is about God. Not because we don’t need Him as we usually say and not because we don’t have time for Him as our often alibis express, but because we are afraid to see or realize that when we face God, we will come into the actualization that indeed we are weak. The shadows are our infirmities.
John 8:32 says that, “You shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.” This is the only way on how to live a complete life my friend. Know God, live for Him and you will notice that as you continue your walk with Him that dark shadow will not be noticeable anymore. Not because it is already gone, but because this time God is already on top of you that His light is shining from above that you are actually stepping into your own dark shadow.
