Do Not Be Afraid

Current world events are sufficient to send chills to the spine. Terrorism, poverty, skyrocketing prices of commodities, natural and man-made calamites contribute to a truly depressing life. The sad thing is even in our own spaces, there are lots to be afraid of. It is dangerous already to wander even in neighborhood. Even houses have added security just to ensure the safety of people living inside.

People have become afraid of almost anything, in almost everywhere, all the time. Also, another sad thing is that people are becoming afraid even of his brothers. It is difficult to trust anyone nowadays for fear of being a victim, taken advantaged, mistreated, abused or lied. Yes, people are afraid of what he has done to his world.

Oh, how difficult the situation of man is. He is placed in a world where he could hardly trust anyone, with people he is afraid to live with. He is put in a condition where it is difficult to move, to play, have fun, everything that a normal human being would love to do. It seems that he is lost in a wide array of passages, and he doesn’t know what passage to go through because of fear. Fear that something might appear and eat him alive. Fear that it is the wrong path. Or just fear of something because he is so used to that. What must he do to overcome his fear?

As far as I know, we are all familiar of what our Lord Jesus Christ went through. The sufferings He endured for our sake were way too much for him to bear. Uncomplainingly and gloriously, Christ still went fulfilling his God-given task telling each of us, “It is finished.”

Having defeated the humanely world Himself, he had all the authority to say: Be Brave! With it comes the invitation for us to be united to Him. So there it is, we have the grace of the Almighty to beat all sufferings and terror in this life filled with misery.

What is there to be afraid of when you know that God is with us? We must therefore be confident of God’s assurance and protective power. We should endure all that life is giving us because even our Lord Jesus Christ has endured the same way and in fact more. We must welcome all hardships, weaknesses, insults, misfortunes and the like because in this way we can feel the power of God most.

God never leaves His people alone; His children should never be daunted. We have to assure ourselves that we are God’s people, and that we will possess the blessings he keeps for his people, and we will also possess with Christ what God has kept for him; for if we share Christ’s sufferings, we will also share his glory.

Be brave because our dear God is with us and will be with us all throughout. He never leaves us because we are important to Him.  God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5). Friend, if you will entrust your life to Jesus by allowing Him to come into your heart, making Him your Lord and Savior, there is no reason to get terrified with all the bad news around the world. This is God’s promise to all who believes, “For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a bright future” (Jeremiah 29:11). There is no reason not to turn to Him. God is our stronghold, be not afraid.
