“And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead you to give your bodies to God. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice- the kind he will accept. When you think of what he has done for you, is it too much to ask?”
-Romans 12:1 (NLT)
After college, I pursued post-graduate studies. I needed to have a thesis in order to finish the course. Although I wanted to graduate the soonest time possible, it took me years to complete my thesis. Every time that I used to pass each draft to my adviser, she kept returning it to me for revisions. I thought I had done my best already. I thought I would be graduating that semester. Why did she need to give many comments as it was my thesis anyway? I misconstrued that she was a tyrant.
One day, I came to a point of realizing that my adviser only wanted me to come up with the best masterpiece, my thesis. She did not want to sacrifice quality of work just in the interest of time. A clumsy thesis would be a reflection of the author, so as the thesis adviser as well. My adviser just wanted to bring out the best in my thesis for my own good. I would also reflect the quality of adviser she was. It would also be forever displayed in our university library. Also for the sake of the upcoming students who would use my thesis as a reference material, I had to do my best.
God wants us to offer Him the best that we can give in all areas of our lives. The offering that He wants us to give is 100% of our life – not only a portion. What matters to Him is not what we offer but how we offer Him our time, talents and treasures. Give our best for the glory of God in everything that we do. When we give Him our time, He wants quality time i.e. in prayer and in the study of His Word. When we offer Him our talents, regardless of how big or small they are, we must give our best. In giving our finances for the Lord’s work, it is not the amount that matters but on the state of our heart when we give.
God is not cruel. He is a loving God. He cares for us. We can give Him the best if we totally surrender our life to Him. It is only in true surrender that we can experience freedom; experiencing life to its fullest.
Do you want to experience freedom and live life to its fullest? Then I encourage you to make the right decision by surrendering your life to Jesus.
“Lord, forgive me if I had misperceptions of You. Help me understand that in surrendering myself to You, I will experience true happiness. Let You be glorified in everything that I do. For in glorifying You, I too am glorified.”
