“Or don’t you know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.”

-1Corinthians 6:19-20 (NLT)

Heart disease is still the leading cause of mortality globally. Cancer is becoming more prevalent. Obesity rate is increasing. It is a predisposing factor to many non-communicable diseases such as cardiovascular disease, kidney problems, gallstone, among the roster.

Poor nutrition, lack of exercise and stress are the major causes of certain diseases. Many Christians are also guilty of having unhealthy lifestyle. It is certain that God heals the sick. But God wants us to have discipline in our eating habits and lifestyle. When God created us, His design is for us to eat fruits and vegetables that’s why He filled the earth with plants and soil. He knew what is best for us.

Are we confident to say before God that we are eating right everyday?  How often do we eat sweets, salty and fatty foods? Do we choose readily available processed foods over fresh fruits and vegetables?

Having physical activity is of equal importance to eating right. Exercise helps produce good cholesterol in the body.  Aside from that, it makes us to be in good shape, it helps us feel good and better.

God loves us. He cares for our entire well-being -our body, soul and spirit. We must not forget our physical body. If we love God, we must care for our body as well. If we are physically fit, we are more likely to live longer. We would have more happy moments with our family. We would have more years to serve God.  Why not disciple yourself for a healthy you?

Similarly, as we train and discipline our physical body, let us not forget to accept training from our leaders on God’s Word. When Jesus left this earth, He passed on the gifts of leadership to members of His Church. Under the power and direction of the Holy Spirit, certain men were given the responsibility of training and equipping Christians in order to guide them to maturity (Ephesians 4:8).

As the human body naturally reaches out and cares for its members when they are hurt, so God designed the family to care for each of its members.

“Lord, help me to please you even in my lifestyle. Let me be cautious in the foods that I eat. Let me have the discipline to be engaged in physical activity. More importantly, let me be equip and ready to help and care for others especially my own family and fellow believers. I offer you my life for your glory. Help me to live longer to have more fruitful years in serving you. In Jesus name, amen.”
