Commitment

“For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him…”

- 2 Chronicles 16:9

In 1940, a group of 100,000 young Germans in brown shirts crammed into the Olympic stadium, the largest stadium in the world at that time and they formed with their bodies a sign that said, “Hitler, we are yours”. There was even a need to have World War II just to break the commitment of those young people as they intended to convert the world to Nazism.

In 1960, a group of Chinese students took a little book called “The Sayings of Chairman Mao”, a little red book. They memorized it and they said they were going to live by the book and commit their lives to the book. In what is now known as the Cultural Revolution, the largest nation in the world, China, was in total upheaval and even today, one billion people – a quarter of the world – are under the domination of Communism because of the commitment of the few.

Jesus Christ had only twelve disciples who committed themselves fully for the advancement of God’s kingdom. They were able to change the world during their time. They loved God more than their lives. They sacrificed all what they had. They were tortured but never gave up their commitment until their final breath. Even up to know, we can still feel the effect of their commitment as Christianity continues to grow.

It all starts with commitment. Nothing changes without commitment. Commitment is what turns dreams into reality. Your commitments define your life. You are the sum total of your commitments. You graduated a degree because you committed to do so. You became a Christian because you decided to be one.

The most important question that we need to answer in life is “Who am I going to live for?” In life, we need to identify whose our life is for or else our life would be futile. If we will decide to live for God, our life must be totally committed to Him. God is looking for people whose hearts are truly His. He is looking not for those who have half-hearted commitment. He looks for people who are willing to commit their lives to Him 100 percent.

God had demonstrated first His 100% commitment by giving His only Son to us, Jesus, to save us from the penalty of sin and death. The life that Jesus experienced here on earth was not easy. He endured all the pain and shame all because of His love for us. It is hard to commit to something without loving.

The level of our commitment to God reflects our level of love for Him.  If you will not commit your life to God, to whom you will live for? Life is not life at all without God in our hearts.

“Lord, forgive me for not giving my 100% commitment to you. Forgive me for living because of my selfish ambitions. Today, I am committing my life to You. Use my life for Your glory. In Jesus name, Amen.”
