Well Done

“His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!”

It does not matter how many things we have done nor how much we have accomplished. What matters most is the condition of our hearts. Remember, our willing heart is as important as the amount of work we do or the money we give.

It is a great grace and favor from God if we are made useful to others. We have to utilize our God-given talents and bring back all the glory to Him. In whatever occupation we are into, we have to do our best so we can glorify God.

A student needs to be diligent to gain knowledge. He must practice integrity by studying well and abhorring cheating despite that the majority do so. A professional must be punctual and must have integrity at work even if his boss is not around the office. A carpenter must build the house skillfully – facing his work with diligence and hard-work; although no one oversees his work. We work not for the ultimate purpose of pleasing men but pleasing God.

When I was new in my job, things to be done piled up. I was so less conscientious and made haste just to finish all the deliverables. With such, I had committed many errors and instead of fast-tracking things, the errors I committed caused much delay. Slothfulness and carelessness brings unpleasant results.   From then on, I learned that I need to be more conscientious and must ensure quality of work. I have been more careful with my work that led eventually to a promotion.

In working for the advancement of God’s kingdom, we must also do excellently what He commands us to do. In the final reckoning, it is very pleasing to welcome the entrance of the Lord’s voice into the gates of our ears saying, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” It is of great exuberance to receive God’s approval.

Everything which is done for the advancement of God’s kingdom is not a waste. Our toils would not be in vain. In the Lord’s work, we must not settle for less but of the best. God gave His best for us so why should we give Him less. It is very much elating to receive approval for a servant from his master, an employee from his boss, a student from his teacher and a child from his parents. How much more the exuberance will be if we get approval from our Great Master, our Lord Jesus Christ.

God is a loving God. He is a loving Father. He gives due recognition and reverence to His obedient children. But for the disobedient and disrespectful, He disciplines with His rod. When we dilly-dally and disobey, we are just wasting our time and energy; we are hurting too much our Creator. Remember that our lives our not our own. When the time comes, the most important thing is having God’s approval.
