The Great Emancipator

The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

– John 10:10

Christ Jesus was and is the Great Emancipator. He came to set men and women free, not from political or military tyranny but from the far worse grip of sin. When you embraced Christ as your Savior, Lord, and Life, you were liberated immediately from the penalty of sin- eternal death. Its mastery over you was shattered instantaneously and permanently.

That was only the beginning. Christ came not only to loose you from sin’s penalty but also to unshackle you from its power that still seeks to enslave your emotions, will, and personality. He wants you to be free to experience the most wonderful life you can imagine. Yet, in what dimensions can you enjoy freedom?

First, we are free from the law. The law says “don’t do this” in order to be righteous, but Galatians 5:1 says, “It is our freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by the yoke of slavery”.

Second, we are free from our past. “Because you are sons, God sent the spirit of His Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, ‘Abba Father.’ So, you are no longer slave, but a son.” As children of God, we are no longer products of our past; we have a new heritage.

Third, we can be free from sin. The only means by which we are capable of doing this is to realize that we have been bought with a price and that the Holy Spirit now lives in us, enabling us to live our lives for Him, free from sin’s bondage.

However, the choice is still ours. Say no to sin, and you will experience a freedom that our lost world can only dream of knowing. So now, how does freedom comes in our life?

Apostle Paul tells us, “So that you come short of no gift, eagerly waiting for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will also confirm you to the end, that you may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 1:7-8).

Paul expressed the truth about God’s love for His people. We are reminded of our position in Christ and how we had been sanctified and separated by our faith.

It was also a reminder of God’s personal love for us. Each of us at some point will fall short God’s plan. When you understand the truth of your personhood in Christ, your feelings of inferiority can be dissolved. You are of infinite worth in Christ, who died in your behalf. You are so valuable to Him that he wants to give you an extravagant life free to worship him and free to enjoy His provisions. When you have Christ within you, and when you abide in Him, His unerring word of truth, you are on the road to freedom.
