“I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore with loving kindness I have drawn you.”
- Jeremiah 31:3
We often hear the song, “What the world needs now, is love, sweet love…” This is so true because everyday, we really need love.
What is love? It is a powerful emotion felt for another person manifesting itself in deep affection. It is a great liking or fondness. Everyone needs love. We cannot live without love. We can often hear stories of people who committed suicide due to depression. Before the incident, they had honest confession, “Nobody loves me.”
They harbor frustration, loneliness and defeat due to the absence of love. They have very low self-esteem. They fill their minds with negative thoughts that they are unsought, unloved, uncared for, unwanted, and disliked. Doubts and fears create haze and gloom in their minds. Grudges, bitterness, grievances and hatred lead them to their own pity and destruction. This is the common scenario of people who are unloved and uncared for.
God is love. His love is abiding and true. He assures us of His faithfulness, unfeigned with much sincerity and devotion. His love covenant gives us the confident assurance that no matter who we are or what we are, He will remain faithful and true to care for us. In spite of all our shortcoming and frailties, He accepts us with His tender and amiable embrace. He wants us to draw closer to Him and experience His love that is patient and kind.
Love does not envy. It does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude. It is not self-seeking. It is not easily angered. It keeps no record of wrongs. It does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, and always perseveres. It never fails.
God writes His daily love notes to us to be read. We must also love Him with our whole heart, mind and soul. Intimacy is a heart to heart and face to face relationship with Him. His words reassure us of care, comfort, security and assurance of His salvation. He builds us up and removes the barriers of old areas of insecurities and loneliness. He admonishes us to remain in His love and extend His love to others.
Do you still have fears? His love casts out all our fears and insecurities. He will never leave us nor forsake us. A man’s love has limitations and several expectations. But, His love has no limit and knows no end. He has always planned and prepared the best for us. He is always at work to replace our frustrations with hope. He is the Source of hope.
Can we find a lover who is so faithful? Indeed, He is. We can rely on Him even in the hardest times or in our confusing moments. Our confusion and heartaches will be replaced by peace. God is the ultimate giver of peace.
If we abide in His love, we are very much secure.
